Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is known for his four decades of business experience along with successful business and philanthropic contributions. Dr.. Rajan Mahtani was conferred with the Forbes ‘Outstanding Entrepreneur of the year’ award for transforming the banking sector of Zambia.
During his four decades of business, Dr. Rajan Mahtani developed several top companies, ventures and businesses. However, one of his most notable businesses include Mahtani Group of Companies which was established in the year 1981. Since then, the company has transformed into a conglomerate with presence across numerous sectors such as mining, energy, agriculture, real estate, insurance and finance. His company Mahtani Group has provided significant employment and livelihood opportunities for people across provinces. Also, Dr. Rajan Mahtani is known for his numerous philanthropic and charitable contributions.
Dr. Rajan Mahtani is the founder and present chairman of the Prison Fellowship Zambia. This program is affiliated to the Prison Fellowship International (PFI), and works towards the welfare and transparent criminal justice system for inmates, ex-inmates as well as their families. Dr. Rajan Mahtani believes that for upliftment of a nation, it is important that those falling on the wrong side of the law must be given opportunity for self-growth and development. This is to ensure that the coming future generations do not fall into the same trap and are able to create a better life for themselves. To achieve this, it is important to ensure that the backbone of any economy and society, which is education, is strong. Dr. Rajan Mahtani has also contributed to the education sector of Zambia by establishing the Stephen Malama award in 2013. The award comes with a scholarship and is given to the top law graduates from Zambia so that they are able to pursue their dreams and goals.
