Mumba Malila, Supreme Court Justice Provides Testimony Regarding 2012 Case On Dr. Mahtani

Zambia is a nation that has seen numerous ups and downs in the past few years. While the country is trying to improve its economic and social conditions with development of industries, financial support and establishing infrastructure for the society, there are numerous culprits who are weighing this progress down. The recent testimony from the Supreme Court Judge is a prime example of the unethical practices that have penetrated even the biggest government offices including the courts and legal system within Zambia. In this testimony, Justice Mumba Malila has stated several incidents and issues of corruption and illegal practices ongoing within the nation.

Dr. Rajan Mahtani

Among the several testimonies, one significant detail was related to the case of 2012 with Dr. Rajan Mahtani. Dr. Mahtani is a noted businessman with more than three decades of business experience in Zambia. Dr. Mahtani is also known for his several philanthropic and charitable activities as well as helping individuals, friends and industry colleagues. Despite his charitable activities, he is often conspired by several unethical and illegal businessmen and politicians who have ulterior motives. A prime example is the 2012 case which was considered as null and void by Mumba Malila who was the Attorney General during that time. Despite several attempts to make the case void, no such requests were entertained by the tribunal during that time. The case was considered against the interests of the public policies as it was influenced by external parties. At the same time, anyone who tried to raise void against this unethical practice was silenced by either bribe or by removal from their positions.

The testimony clearly opens a lot of wrongdoings happening at the centre of the government. It is now the prime responsibility of the Zambian government to ensure that such activities are minimised and the Zambian law and governance system is re-born with transparent and ethical practices.
