The latest testimony from someone sitting at the Supreme Court Zambia, one of the highest positions across the nation, is a true example of how there is an urgent need for controlling this ever-increasing corruption and unethical practices across the nation. Mumba Malila is a Judge at the Supreme Court Zambia. In recently testified before the judge, revealing some of the horrifying unethical practices going on within the Zambian nation. In one of his testimonies, he mentions a case of 2012 pertaining to Dr. Rajan Mahtani, a notable businessman from Zambia. While Dr. Mahtani is not from Zambia itself, he has always considered this nation as his own motherland. With more than three decades of business experience, he is among one of the most influential businessman in Zambia. Mumba Malila, who was the Attorney General during that time, even requested a ‘nolle prosequi’ meaning to make the judgment null and void as it was against the interests of the public policies. The judgment was clearly misdirected and even after several appeals and testimony, no actions were taken during that that.

This incident and the exposure from the testimony clearly indicate the level of corrupt which has penetrated across several departments of the government and political houses. In his testimony, the judge has highlighted that as a result of few corrupt but powerful individuals, innocent and honest citizens like Dr. Rajan Mahtani continue to suffer. These corrupt individuals bribe government officials and the level of bribery is huge, penetrating even into the highest positions of the government.Unless these corrupt practices are completely removed and an ethical and transparent government is not establishment; there is no hope for progress and ethical businessmen like Dr. Rajan Mahtani will continue to suffer. Therefore, it is high time to change and bring a transparent government within the Zambian nation.
